Pulse believes their service can save developers up to 25% in time, energy and money per year on utility location costs compared to the existing toner method that involves pinging a current along a utility line and tracking it. Pulse combines ground penetrating radar with augmented GPS to within accuracy of a centimeter. Their 100-pound device is towed over roads, collecting data that’s sent to their software program, which uses a 3-D overlay of Google Earth. Users can zoom in on specific areas and see the utility lines highlighted in various colors. Pulse Utility’s first job was scanning UH’s Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex field during this year’s overhaul of the facility to prepare it for football games. Jason Thune, Exec Dir. - Fiber Strategy & Deployment who served as a judge for the Innovation Impact Challenge, said, “Pulse Utility demonstrates tremendous potential to improve workflows in our industry. We’re proud to have helped to launch a home-grown technology innovator right here in Hawai‘i.” Learn More at [pulseutility.com](https://pulseutility.com/#services)  Share this article: - [Tweet](https://twitter.com/share) [Email](mailto:?body=I%20thought%20you%20might%20enjoy%20reading%20this%20article%0A%0Ahttps%3A%2F%2Fblog.hawaiiantel.com%2Fconnections%2Fhawaii-startup-takes-the-pulse-of-utility-mapping&subject=Check%20out%20the%20latest%20news%20from%20Hawaiian%20Telcom) ### Trending 1[When the Storm Hits, Fiber Stays Strong](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/when-the-storm-hits-fiber-stays-strong) 2[Fiber-Optics Key to Digital Resilience](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/fiber-optics-key-to-digital-resilience) 3[Hawaiian Telcom’s Summer of Community Connection](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/hawaiian-telcoms-summer-of-community-connection) 4[Fiber-optic cables help with leak detection](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/fiber-optic-cables-help-with-leak-detection) 5[Peace of Mind for Condo Residents Starts with Fiber-Optics](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/peace-of-mind-for-condo-residents-starts-with-fiber-optics) #### OTHER RELATED ARTICLES [![](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/hubfs/20250912%20Ka%20Papa%20Loi%20o%20Kanewai%20-%20DitC-17.jpg)](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/2026-climate-action-plan-update) [News](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/tag/type-news) [Our 2026 Climate Action Plan Update](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/2026-climate-action-plan-update) [![](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/hubfs/kauai.jpg)](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/kauai-now-fully-fiber-enabled) [News](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/tag/type-news) [Kaua'i Now Fully Fiber Enabled](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/kauai-now-fully-fiber-enabled) [![](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/hubfs/HT%20Financial%20Programs%202.jpg)](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/get-affordable-services-with-financial-assistance-programs) [News](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/tag/type-news) [Get Affordable Services with Financial Assistance Programs](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/get-affordable-services-with-financial-assistance-programs) [![](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/hubfs/bcf%20fund%20awardees2.jpg)](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/hawaii-non-profits-apply-for-grants-in-october-2024) [News](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/tag/type-news) [Hawai'i Non-Profits: Apply For Grants Now Through October 31](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/hawaii-non-profits-apply-for-grants-in-october-2024) [![](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/hubfs/Fioptics+%20TV%20service%20to%20Neighbor%20Islands.png)](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/expanding-fioptics-tv-service-to-neighbor-islands) [News](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/tag/type-news) [Expanding Fioptics+ TV Service to Neighbor Islands](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/expanding-fioptics-tv-service-to-neighbor-islands) [![](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/hubfs/blog%20techview%20data%20breaches%20hit%20small%20businessses%20the%20hardest.jpg)](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/data-breaches-often-hit-small-businesses-hardest) [News](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/tag/type-news) [Cybersecurity](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/tag/type-cybersecurity) [Data breaches often hit small businesses hardest](https://blog.hawaiiantel.com/connections/data-breaches-often-hit-small-businesses-hardest) Get recent posts straight to your inbox. © 2026 Hawaiian Telcom.
