Workspace as a Service: Secure Remote Workspace Strategy on Your Terms

Written by Kenneth Hensarling | May 19, 2021 10:01:19 PM

Even before the lockdowns it has been estimated that desktop-as-a-service (DaaS) would grow at an annual rate of nearly 60 percent (58.8%) through 2023. Then came COVID-19 and the massive work-from-home experiment of 2020 and accelerated the DaaS growth in record time. For many businesses it meant taking a leap to a new working structure without thorough calculation and research.

If you had to accelerate your remote work environment for COVID-19, now is the time to re-examine and optimize.

CBTS Hawaiian Telcom took a thoughtful approach in developing their own desktop-as-a-service offering.  Workspace as a Service (WaaS) remote working approach has offered several significant advantages over other solutions, including:

  1. Secured access. WaaS provides secure remote access for employees, contractors, offshore developers and other third parties without some of the performance constraints found with on-premise solutions.
  2. Scalability. WaaS enables customers to seamlessly handle unanticipated spikes in workloads. Leveraging that capacity allows desktops to be provisioned quickly and made accessible to users from anywhere while maintaining required security standards. This can allow institutions to manage disaster recovery solutions in a new way.
  3. Cost benefit. WaaS gives customers predictable costs.  In theory, Cloud VDIs allow users to quickly scale up or down and pay only for what they use, reducing support costs. Our experience has been that most organizations have challenges managing these variable costs and this is why WaaS has become so valuable.
  4. Operational support. WaaS is easier to manage than on-premise solutions and doesn't require the regular patching and other cyclical activities related to end-user desktop management. WaaS offers secure, turnkey solutions with out-of-the-box features, such as autoscaling, monitoring, patching and software upgrades, eliminating the need to build separate toolsets around infrastructure provisioning and automation.
  5. User experience. WaaS has provided a better end-user experience through simplified accessibility, improved speed and performance. End users can leverage personal devices to securely access an enterprise desktop environment from anywhere, eliminating the need to manage multiple computers.

WaaS Assessment

We make sure our customers are running their businesses on a secure, cost-effective and go-forward solution with WaaS Assessment. It helps organizations identify all current users and environments, allowing the company to investigate, plan and easily execute on any desktop strategy moving forward.

The WaaS Assessment provides a roadmap to centrally manage the user, regardless of platform, and allows for seamless optimization of users and infrastructure. It is also the kernel of executing a complete desktop disaster recovery plan.

We cover off all of the essentials, like Operational Security, Identity and Access Management, Vulnerability and Risk Management, Operational Processes, Uses of Automation, Operational Intelligence, Scalability and Cost Management.

What our customers find most valuable is that we document the findings from the WaaS Assessment. We address any security, scalability, operations, automation, or compliance gaps or opportunities and provide a cloud roadmap and a series of remediation and enhancement projects to improve reliability and efficiency.

We start where you are and get you to where you want to be. CBTS Hawaiian Telcom uses the WaaS Assessment findings and your input to come up with customized architectural design and application strategy that match your cloud strategy and your security posture. We build your stack.

We will talk more about WaaS solutions at our upcoming event Transforming to a Digital Workspace. Are you in? Click for more details.
