35-Year Company Veteran Recognized for High Performance in Community

During National Volunteer Month, Hawaiian Telcom recognizes and thanks its employees for volunteering and making a positive impact on the local community.

Hawaiian Telcom also recognized 35-year company veteran Gina Amina with its first President’s Award for High Performance in the Community. As president of the Waikiki 2000 Lions Club, Ms. Amina led and participated in numerous service projects, ranging from The School Age Hearing Program (pre-COVID) to organizing food and supply drives for organizations that support our kūpuna like Project Dana.

In 2019 Hawaiian Telcom launched a unique employee volunteer program called Mālama (to care for) Hours that gives all full-time employees up to 40 paid hours to volunteer in the community every year. Hawaiian Telcom employees logged more than 1,160 volunteer hours in 2020.

“Our investment in our state goes beyond expanding our next-generation fiber network to making a positive difference in our communities, which reflects our company’s culture and values,” said Su Shin, President and General Manager. “Even during a global pandemic, our team members found creative ways to stayed connected to our communities, supporting non-profit organizations, schools, churches and more. We’re proud to support our employees in giving back in ways that they find most meaningful.”
