Helping Students Get Ready to Learn with Helping Hands Hawaii
Hawaiian Telcom employees visited the Helping Hands Hawaii facility on Nimitz Highway to assist with their Ready to Learn program in preparation for the new 2024 school year.
During this event, volunteers took inventory of supplies and completed checking over 360 prepared backpacks. Each pack had enough supplies to get students through the beginning of the school year. Helping Hands Hawaii's goal is to complete 2,000 backpacks this year.
For over 25 years, Ready to Learn has been a part of Helping Hands Hawaii's Community Clearinghouse program -- designed to assist keiki in need with essential materials to be successful at the start of their school term. The program aids students in overcoming social pressure from the lack of new supplies that can negatively impact learning and social progress. The Ready to Learn program serves over 1,300 students yearly and provides new backpacks and school supplies to keiki from grades K-12.
Helping Hands Hawaii is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, providing critical social services to improve quality of life and empower those they service towards a better tomorrow.
